Larva

Most species develop into a larva from the egg. This is a wormlike creature that looks nothing like its parents. Larvae live in different places and eat different food to the parents. The larvae of many species have different names, for example, the larvae of butterflies are called caterpillars while the larvae of flies are commonly known as maggots. Larvae basically eat, grow and moult when their skin becomes too tight. They may eat several times their own weight in food.
