Mouthparts

The mouthparts vary among the many different species, however there are basically two types. One is for chewing and this type of mouth structure is found on insects such as grasshoppers, crickets, beetles, termites and cockroaches. The other type is for sucking and this type is found on insects like bedbugs and mosquitoes.

Some other insects such as butterflies and moths have a different type again and use a long slender drinking tube (proboscis) which is joined to suck up nectar from flowers.
