Milk Exports

In more recent years, the export market has accounted for just over 40% of total national production. With only steady domestic market growth, any increase in production will result in increased exports.

Australia accounts for around ten per cent of world trade in dairy products, while accounting for only around two per cent of world milk production.

Asia is Australia's key export region and over 80% of our dairy exports goes to the Asian market. The main countries involved include Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan and Singapore.

A significant amount of butter and cheese products are transported to the Middle East. Some countries have import restrictions which have limited the amount Australia can export, such as the European Union and th United States.
