Dairy Regions in Australia

Milk production occurs in all states of Australia. Dairy cattle are of great importance in Victoria, Tasmania and the south west of Western Australia. In these areas dairy cattle account for 25 - 40% of the total cattle herds on farms. In terms of milk production, Victoria accounts for over 61% of the national total.

Dairy farms are usually located close to main highways and not far from major cities. The transportation of milk can then be carried out quickly so that the milk can be kept cold and transport costs are kept to a minimum.
