Spam - Unsolicited
"junk" e-mail sent to large numbers of people to promote products or
services. Also refers to inappropriate promotional or commercial postings to
discussion groups or bulletin boards.

Spam floods e-mail boxes around the world with unwanted mail. Many programs have been developed to filter out spam e-mail, however, "spammers" are always finding new ways to disguise their emails as genuine email. Many times if you reply to spam, the message is returned as undeliverable however, the spammers are now aware for certain that your e-mail address is "active" and can be sold to e-mail spam lists. Users of services like Hotmail and Yahoo e-mail sites are constantly swamped with spam.
Microsoft is the giant of computer software. This week, Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft Corporation, unleashed plans at a COMDEX conference in Las Vegas, USA, for anti-spam software known as SmartScreen Technology. Basically, this is a machine-learning-based filtering technology. SmartScreen Technology has already been included into the spam filters for Microsoft Outlook 2003, MSN 8 and Hotmail, and will soon be available in a new Intelligent Message Filter for Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 that is planned for release to customers in the first half of 2004.
Gates is hailing SmartScreen Technology as a major advance in the battle to help secure users' inboxes and return greater productivity to people's e-mail experience.
