Q. What does a Dental Hygienist do?

A. A dental hygienist helps us to keep our mouths healthy. They may take x-rays of our teeth, remove plaque and stains and check to see that our gums are healthy.

Dental hygienists can find the problems with our teeth and use fluorides and other preventive agents to help our teeth and gums fight disease.

They tell us how to keep our gums and teeth healthy by showing us how to choose a good tooth brush. They also show us how to use dental floss after eating.

A dental hygienist spent a lot of time at hygiene school learning about germs which cause cavities and gum disease. You can learn more about Dental Hygienists at the American Dental Hygienist Association.
